Instructional Responsibilities

Curriculum Design and Implementation
- Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with VA Commonwealth CTE standards and industry certifications.
- Integrate academic concepts (math, science, reading, etc.) with hands-on, career-focused training.
- Create projects, labs, and simulations that mimic real-world work environments.

Skill Development
- Teach students technical skills specific to the industry area.
- Provide instruction on workplace essentials, such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.
- Train students to use industry-standard tools, software, and equipment safely and effectively.

Certification Preparation
- Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, licenses, or credentials.
- Provide practice exams, guidance, and resources to help students meet certification requirements.

Assessment and Evaluation
- Develop assessments to evaluate both technical skills and academic knowledge.
- Use rubrics, performance evaluations, and project-based assessments to measure student progress.
- Offer constructive feedback to help students improve technical competencies and work readiness.

Career Readiness Education
- Teach employability skills, such as resume writing, interviewing, and professional behavior.
- Educate students on career pathways, job market trends, and post-secondary education options.
Classroom and Lab Management

Safety and Compliance
- Ensure that all activities comply with industry safety standards and school policies.
- Conduct safety training for students and maintain proper usage of tools and equipment.
- Regularly inspect classroom and lab environments to identify and address potential hazards.

Resource Management
- Maintain inventory and ensure availability of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Request and manage budgets for classroom and lab supplies.

Behavioral Management
- Create and enforce clear expectations for student conduct in classrooms and labs.
- Address behavioral issues in a constructive manner while maintaining a professional environment.
Work-Based Learning and Industry Connections

Industry Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, trade organizations, and community partners.
- Collaborate with industry professionals to align curriculum with workforce needs.

Work-Based Learning Opportunities
- Organize internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships, or cooperative education experiences.
- Coordinate field trips, guest speakers, and industry tours to expose students to career opportunities.

Advisory Committees
- Participate in or lead advisory committees that guide program development and maintain industry relevance.
Student Support and Guidance

Individualized Instruction
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, including students with disabilities or English language learners.
- Provide additional support for students struggling with technical or academic concepts.

- Serve as a mentor to help students explore their interests, strengths, and career goals.
- Encourage students to pursue advanced education or training when applicable.

Academic and Career Counseling
- Guide students in selecting appropriate CTE programs and pathways.
- Help students create career plans and make informed decisions about their futures.
Administrative Responsibilities

Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress toward certifications.
- Track and report student outcomes, such as job placements, internships, and certifications earned.

Program Management
- Evaluate the effectiveness of CTE programs and recommend improvements.
- Align program offerings with evolving industry standards and local workforce demands.

Collaboration with Colleagues
- Work with other teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate CTE with academic programs.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional learning communities, and staff meetings.
Professional Development

Continuous Learning
- Stay current on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in CTE instruction.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions relevant to their field.

Credential Maintenance
- Maintain required teaching certifications and licenses.
- Acquire additional certifications to enhance expertise and program quality.

Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the creation and revision of CTE curriculum based on feedback from industry partners and advisory committees.

- Advise or support career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) such as SkillsUSA, DECA, HOSA, or FFA.
- Coach students in competitive events, leadership activities, and service projects.

- Engage with parents to keep them informed about their child's progress and career opportunities.
- Promote CTE programs at school and community events to raise awareness and support.

- Create an inclusive environment where all students feel welcome and supported, regardless of background or ability.
- Ensure equitable access to high-quality CTE education for underrepresented groups.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree with coursework in assigned specialty area, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires sitting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, playground, classroom, light traffic).
